Basic Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients: – 4 large potatoes (about 2 pounds) – 1/2 cup milk – 4 tablespoons butter – Salt, to taste – Pepper, to taste – Optional: chopped chives or parsley for garnish

Instructions: 1. Preparation:Peel the potatoes and cut them into chunks of roughly equal size. Rinse the potato chunks under cold water to remove excess starch.

Boiling:Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt to the water.

Draining:Once the potatoes are tender, drain them in a colander and return them to the pot. Allow any excess moisture to evaporate for a minute or two.

Mashing:Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until they reach your desired consistency. For extra creamy mashed potatoes, you can use a potato ricer or a hand mixer.

Adding Butter and Milk:While the potatoes are still hot, add the butter and milk to the pot. Stir gently until the butter is melted and the milk is fully incorporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Final Touches:Taste the mashed potatoes and adjust the seasoning if necessary. If desired, sprinkle chopped chives or parsley over the top for a pop of color and flavor.

Serving:Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish and serve them hot alongside your favorite main course. Enjoy!
