Real Homemade Bagels Recipe

Ingredients: – 4 cups bread flour – 1 tablespoon granulated sugar – 1 ½ teaspoons salt – 1 tablespoon active dry yeast – 1 ¼ cups warm water – 2 tablespoons honey – 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions: 1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together bread flour and salt. Make a well in the center. 

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the yeast mixture into the well of the flour mixture. Add honey. Stir until a dough forms. 

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball.

Rest the Dough: Place the dough ball in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shape the Bagels: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.

Boil and Bake: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add honey. Boil the bagels, 2-3 at a time, for 1-2 minutes on each side.
