The Best Classic Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

Ingredients: 1. 2 cups all-purpose flour 2. 1/4 cup granulated sugar 3. 1 tablespoon baking powder 4. 1/2 teaspoon salt 5. 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed 6. 2/3 cup heavy cream 7. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 8. 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced 9. 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for strawberries) 10. Whipped cream, for serving

Instructions: 1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. 2. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

1. In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently until it comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.

Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the shortcakes are golden brown. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly.

While the shortcakes are cooling, toss the sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup of sugar and let them sit for about 10 minutes.

To serve, split the shortcakes in half horizontally. Place a spoonful of strawberries on the bottom half of each shortcake, then top with whipped cream.
